Acta Marine Christens Methanol Dual-Fuel Vessel
Rotterdam-based maritime support provider Acta Marine announced the christening of its methanol dual-fuel construction service operation vessel (CSOV) this week.
The vessel, Acta Hercules, was delivered earlier this year as the second ship in Acta Marine’s four-vessel newbuild CSOV programme, the firm said in an emailed statement yesterday.
It is operating under a long-term charter for Vestas, supporting offshore wind operations.
It is fitted with methanol dual-fuel engines and a battery energy storage system designed to support lower-emission operations.
The company has also taken delivery of Acta Pegasus and Acta Gemini, while the fourth vessel, Acta Aquarius, is expected later this year.
Once Acta Aquarius is delivered, Acta Marine said its fleet will comprise seven dedicated walk-to-work and construction service operation vessels.
Several shipowners have ordered vessels capable of running on methanol, with the container segment leading it.
