Jotun Hull Performance Solutions (HPS) says a new hull coating package for newbuilds will allow shipyards to deliver eco-ships with maximum fuel efficiency.

The HPS Newbuilding Solution package includes the company's antifouling product, SeaQuantum X200-S, a "Smooth Application Package" designed to reduce hull roughness, and a 60-month guarantee, promising cash back if average speed loss exceeds 1.5 percent over 60 months.

"With HPS Newbuilding Solution Jotun enables yards to become more competitive when bidding for eco-ship projects," said Geir Boe, vice president of Jotun Marine Coatings.

"The solution provides an opportunity to both optimise initial performance as well as lifetime performance.

"The solution thereby serves the long term interests of the designers, yards, owners, operators and the environment."

A manager for Eitzen Chemical A/S, which is coating two of its vessels' hulls with Jotun anti-fouling products, said last month that effective hull coatings represent a "low-hanging fruit" for improving fuel efficiency.
