Publisher and events company Fathom Shipping (Fathom) have teamed up with classification society Lloyd's Register (LR) to launch the new publication, "Emission Control Areas: The Guide".

The £125 "full package" comes in 3 parts; The Strategic Guide, On-Board Manual, and Lloyd’s Register Sulphur Record Book 2012.

According to a Fathom statement, the guide details the full scope of the challenges ship owners and operators will face when operating within an ECA.

The Strategic Guide is intended as a decision support reference guide to ensure ECA compliance, while the On-Board Manual is a guide to the ECA zones, fuel switching, and reporting compliance requirements.

LR said, “With the imminent North American ECA and the clock counting down to the more stringent requirements of 2015, Fathom and Lloyd’s Register have worked to compile one comprehensive reference manual for what owners, operators and their crews need to know to run an ECA compliant vessel.”

Alison Jarabo, Managing Director of Fathom, said: “ECA regulations present significant challenges to ship owners and operators, particularly at a time when they are also worried by issues related to the current economic downturn and financial volatility."
