Hapag-Lloyd Orders DNV GL Hull Monitoring System
DNV GL says that Germany liner operator Hapag-Lloyd will use its GL HullManager software for monitoring and reporting on hull maintenance for its fleet.
"We are convinced we can get an easier and faster overview of hull conditions across the fleet and much better preparation for dry dockings with GL HullManager," said Lutz-Michael Dyck, director of Technical Fleet Management at Hapag-Lloyd.
GL HullManager provides hull inspection and thickness measurement support as well as tools to plan, track, and implement inspections and streamline processes for repairs and regulatory compliance reporting.
Using 3D models that include ships' structural details, the software lets a ship's crew mark any coating or structural failures and include descriptions or photos, and data can be made available company-wide for better comparisons and analysis.
DNV GL says GL HullManager is now in use by more than 350 vessels worldwide.
Another maritime classification company, ABS, said earlier this year that ship owners are increasingly interested in technology that promotes energy efficiency, including hull monitoring.
