  • Update 1 - Added information posted on Abdul Aziz Jaafar's Twitter account.

The product tanker Orkim Harmony that went missing last week has been located in Cambodian waters, Malaysian Chief of Navy Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar has confirmed.

Jaafar says the vessel is currently being tracked from the air by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), and the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).

It is understood that Orkim Harmony has been repainted and renamed to Kim Harmon.

"We have found the vessel and RMAF, MMEA and RAAF aircraft are tailing it from the air," said Jaafar.

Commenting on his Twitter account, Jaafar said that naval vessel KD Terengganu is shadowing the vessel and is in communication with Orkim Harmony's captain.

"At least 8 perpetrators are onboard. They are armed with pistols and 'parangs'. They speak with Indonesian accent," another update read.

Jaafar has also noted that all crew members are safe and unharmed.

Earlier today Ship & Bunker reported that unconfirmed reports indicated a possible sighting of the missing product tanker in Cambodian waters and that a Royal Malaysian Navy corvette is said to be underway to an unspecified location.

Further reports have indicted that the sighting was made by an Australian aircraft.

The MMEA is understood to be intending to hold a press briefing at 0700 GMT Thursday.

Orkim Harmony, a product tanker belonging to Malaysia's Orkim Group, went missing last Thursday, June 11, and was last seen approximately 17 nautical miles (nm) southwest of Pulau Aur, Malaysia.

On Tuesday a spokesman for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said he believed the missing tanker was most likely robbed by bunker pirates who are still trying to unload the vessels' cargo.

Ship & Bunker reported yesterday that Vice Admiral Ahmad Puzi Ab Kahar, deputy director general of the operations unit of the MMEA, had criticised the owner of missing tanker for waiting 10 hours after they lost contact with Orkim Harmony before alerting authorities.

"The lapse after they lost communication made it very difficult for us," he said.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more details emerge.
