  • Wah Kwong NatPower signs MOU with Jiangsu Port Group investment arm on inland waterway green energy network
  • Deal extends the venture's China footprint beyond Zhejiang
  • Focus moving from standalone charging to integrated charging, storage, and battery-swapping

Hong Kong-based maritime electrification venture Wah Kwong NatPower has signed a memorandum of understanding with Jiangsu Port Group Investment Management to develop a green energy network for inland waterway shipping in Jiangsu province.

The MOU was signed at the Jiangsu International Maritime Conference in Nanjing, the company said in an emailed press release on Wednesday.

Jiangsu Port Investment is a wholly owned subsidiary of Jiangsu Port Group, and serves as the group's investment, capital operations, and asset management platform.

The province has China's largest inland waterway network.

The deal extends WK NatPower's presence in the country beyond Zhejiang, where earlier this year it agreed to develop electric vessel charging and battery-swapping infrastructure with a local energy firm.

The company says it is evolving from individual charging installations towards integrated energy systems combining charging, battery storage, and battery-swapping, capable of serving a wider range of operational scenarios.

WK NatPower is backed by shipowner Wah Kwong Maritime Transport and energy infrastructure firm NatPower, and aims to build a maritime electrification network across Asia supplying power to ships at berth and for electric propulsion.
