Thursday September 24, 2026
Marine contractor CSL OWL SRI has launched the first of two purpose-built subsea rock installation vessels designed to support offshore wind projects.
The vessel, MV Rock Star, can carry up to 17,500 tonnes of rock and is equipped with DP2 dynamic positioning for operations in water depths of up to 100 m, the firm said in an announcement yesterday .
It can run on conventional marine fuels and methanol.
The vessel features a motion-compensated tremie pipe and transport belts for rock grading between 60 and 300 kg, with capacity to handle rocks weighing up to 450 kg.
It will support offshore wind applications including scour protection, cable burial and protection, and other subsea rock installation work.
