Applied Weather Technology Inc. (AWT), a U.S.-based provider of fleet optimisation services and software, has released a new version of its fleet management system, Fleet Decision Support System (FleetDSS) 2.0, the company said in an emailed press release.

The company said the new version will be relevant to more types of operators, with tools including a feature comparing a vessel's performance to its charter party terms.

"The original version of FleetDSS was very useful for liner companies, but now with version 2.0, we have expanded the capabilities of FleetDSS to cover a wide spectrum of the market," said Rich Brown, vice president of products and systems.

"In FleetDSS 2.0, the new tools allow ship operators to be more efficient and make better decisions."

The new version provides high-resolution wind, wave, and current data, along with specific data on how conditions will affect ships.

In addition, it includes an "ETA confidence" tool that analyses models to predict the likelihood that a ship will arrive on time, providing background for decision making.

"At AWT, we are committed to meeting the diverse needs of all sectors of the shipping industry," said CEO Haydn Jones.

"With the launch of FleetDSS 2.0, we believe AWT has developed an invaluable tool that will help companies be more efficient in managing their fleets while minimizing fuel consumption and improving safety."

FleetDSS 2.0 can also be set to collect data at a central location and provide access to multiple users, allowing quicker access to information, and it offers a graphical tool comparing performance across a group of ships so operators can quickly detect under-performing ships.

AWT launched a new version of its Bon Voyage (BVS) software this June.
