New Bunker-Monitoring Tool Introduced
U.S.-based ship health monitoring company MACSEA Ltd. says it is now offering a new tool to provide real-time bunker consumption data.
The product, known as Fuel Vision, is an add-on module to the company's DEXTER ship health monitoring software that provides a continuous display of various energy use data, allowing operators to track the effects of energy efficiency improvements and determine how much fuel and money is spent on voyages.
The system also has a remote monitoring capability to send fuel and emissions reports back to the home office.
Fuel Vision is compatible with MACSEA's KRAL rotary displacement flow meters, allowing both onboard crew and home office staff to track fuel use and emissions for a single ship or a whole fleet.
Rising bunker prices and new International Maritime Organisation (IMO) requirements that ship owners adopt a Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) have contributed to an increased focus on monitoring fuel use.
Last month, another U.S. company, Nautical Control Solutions LP, said its fuel tracking system received patent protection in Canada, and other companies including Marorka, Kemilinks International Pte Ltd, and Emerson Process Management have introduced new monitoring products in recent months.
