Singapore Bunker Sales Surge Continues as MPA Posts Record 9 Month Volumes for January to September
Singapore's record breaking year for bunker sales continued in September, with the latest preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) showing the world's biggest bunkering port by volume set yet another record last month.
Sales for all products in September totalled 3,847,700 metric tonnes (mt), meaning the total sales for all products during the first nine months of the year were a highest ever of 33,483,500 mt, 3.7 percent higher than the previous record of 32,275,600 mt sold during the first nine months of 2012.
The September total itself was an increase of 9.3 percent over last year, and the fourth highest ever monthly sales total.
The result follows a number other bunker related records set in Singapore this year, including the highest ever monthly bunker sales volume of 4,287,800 mt set in August, and the highest ever first quarter bunker sales of 10,653,600 mt for all products.
For September 2015, the port's most popular grade, IFO380, saw sales of 2.91 million mt.
500 cSt product saw sales of 736,800 mt, which was 19.1 percent of the overall sales total - a more typical proportion than the 18.0 and 18.1 percent seen during the preceding July and August respectively.
There were 11,045 vessel arrivals for the month, up 227 from 10,818 in September 2014.
Calls for bunkers during the month totalled 3,385, up by 207 year-on-year from 3,178.
Earlier this month MPA clarified to Ship & Bunker its methodology for calculating the port's monthly published bunker sales volumes.
