Negotiations with Gazpromneft Marine Bunker (Gazpromneft) are underway to build the required liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering infrastructure to support the operation of three newbuild LNG-powered ferries slated for delivery to Black Sea Ferry & Invest Ltd. (BFI) in 2018, IAA PortNews reports.

The ships, said to be coming at a price of RUB 12.6 billion ($190 million), were announced by Andrei Bagno, BFI's Director General at Moscow's 6th International Forum on the Marine Industry of Russia, and are likely to require special bunkering tankers to be built as part of the project.

The ferries are reported to be set for employment on the Ust-Luga to Baltijsk route, with the company currently awaiting a decision by Russia's Ministry of Finance on allocations RUB 5.1 billion ($80 million) in subsidies for the project, with RUB 7.5 billion ($120 million) expected to be raised through leasing.

In February, Ship & Bunker reported that Gazpromneft enjoyed sales growth of 22 percent in marine fuels at the Black Sea ports of Novorossiysk, Tuapse, Sochi, Taman, Kavkaz, and Temryuk during 2015.
