Russian bunkering and oil transshipment company the Baltic Fuel Co. (BFC) says it will move forward with the construction of an oil terminal through the reclamation of land at Big Port, St. Petersburg.

The company received approval from the city of St. Peterburg to create 1.43 hectares of artificial lands for the Turukhtannye Island Oil Terminal.

The terminal territory now covers 7.3 hectares, including two oil products-handling berths with an annual throughput of 500,000 tonnes.

The $110 million project will include the modernization of the terminal to increase its handling capacity to 1.7 million tonnes of products in 2015-2016, 2.4 million tonnes starting in 2017, and up to 5 million tonnes starting in 2020.

The project also includes a third berth at the terminal, boosting its tank farm storage capacity to 42,000 tonnes.

BFC supplies bunkers in the eastern Gulf of Finland and on the Neva river, ships oil products on international trade lanes and in Russian waterways, and provides waste collection services, according to its website.
