In a move meant to support see liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering at Germany's Port of Lübeck, port operator Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft (LHG) and the Lübeck Port Authority (LPA) have signed a Letter of Intent with Russia's LNG Gorskaya for the development of an LNG floating storage unit (FSU), bunkering vessel, and truck loading facility, World Maritime News reports.

The companies are said to be planning to have the 2,200 tonne capacity FSU completed by September 1, 2017.

LHG, LPA, and the City of Lübeck are reported to be working to identify a location for the project to be carried out that will not interrupt regular port operations.

In May, Carnival Corporation & plc (Carnival) hailed its in-port use of LNG for two vessels berthed in the Port of Hamburg as a sign of the changing times for the cruise industry.
