The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) Thursday announced that, in light of the implementation of the new TR 48:2015, it has renamed "Mass Flow Metering Course" to the "Refresher Course for Bunker Surveyors and Bunker Cargo Officers – including Bunker Mass Flow Meter."

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is said to have approved the course, which will be offered to MPA licensed bunker surveyors and cargo officers who are at least 21 years-old, medically fit, have a working knowledge of English, and have attended and completed the 2 days SS600:2014 Enhanced Bunkering Course.

Those MPA licensed bunker surveyors and cargo officers will receive a certificate of course completion at the end of the course.

The course will also be open to public with no assessment required, receiving a certificate of attendance upon completion.

The IBIA says the course will be offered on the following dates:

  • March 15 and 16, 2016
  • April 11 and 12, 2016
  • April 26 and 27, 2016
  • May 10 and 11, 2016

Further, two separate offerings of a one day refresher course will be offered only for participants who have previously attended the Mass Flow Metering Course from September 2014 – January 2016 on the following dates:

  • April 19, 2016
  • May 6, 2016

The IBIA notes that a 70 percent Maritime Cluster Fund (MCF) training grant is available for eligible participants as well, with further eligibility details available at http://www.mpa.gov.sg/mcf.

As Ship & Bunker reported in February, the MPA has launched the world's first National Technical Reference for Bunker Mass Flow Metering (MFM), TR48 : 2015.
