Alfa Laval says a new version of its Fuel Conditioning Module (FCM), known as FCM One, offers a much greater range of options than the original to support vessels working with multiple fuels, blended fuels, and regulations that vary by location.

The FCM One automatically switches between fuels while controlling viscosity and minimising waste, and it can also blend fuels as needed to meet relevant standards for sulfur emissions in emissions control areas (ECAs).

"This makes it easier to create an economical match for ECA requirements," said Paolo Golla, Alfa Laval's product manager for Fuel Conditioning Systems.

This summer, Insatech A/S announced the launch of its own system to allow for blending and switching fuel contents, targeted at ships that occasionally travel through ECAs.
