A fourth ship attack has been reported in the Middle East on Sunday, according to a British government agency monitoring maritime security in the region.

The ship came under attack about 35 nautical miles west of Sharjah at 4:45 PM UTC on Sunday, the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency said in a social media post.

"It has been reported that an unknown projectile has exploded in very close proximity to a vessel," the agency said.

"All crew are safe and well."

The attack follows three similar incidents earlier in the day.

The US and Israel attacked a series of military facilities in Iran on Saturday, killing Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several other senior government figures. Iran responded with strikes on US bases and other targets across the Middle East, and appears to be attempting to prevent commercial shipping from moving through the Strait of Hormuz.
