The U.S. West Coast port of Tacoma may host a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering facility for use by Totem Ocean Trailer Express (Totem Ocean), industry news site Natural Gas Intelligence reports.

A port spokesperson said Totem Ocean is in talks with local energy firm Puget Sound Energy, but no details on plans for the station or the supply infrastructure are available yet.

The port is in the midst of several plans for the development of natural gas projects, including a new methanol production plant proposed by global multi-national partnership NW Innovation Works, which intends to ship the product to Asia.

There are also reports that a major oil and gas company may be considering an LNG and gas distribution facility outside of port-controlled land.

Peter Keller, executive vice president of TOTE Inc., Totem Ocean's parent company, said recently that it was working to finalise a deal for the supply of LNG bunkers in Washington to fuel vessels it is converting to the fuel for its Washington-Alaska trades.
