Singapore Bunker Sales Rise in January 2013

Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) today revealed that bunker sales at the world's largest bunkering port by volume were up 4.5 percent in January 2013 to 3,787,600 metric tonnes (mt) for all products.

The official total ends earlier speculation, based an a brief release of figures last week coupled with rising bunker prices for the month, that volumes were down.

The total was also higher than the 3,668,500 mt recorded in January 2012, and the 3,642,400 mt recorded in January 2011.

Of note in the latest volumes report was that MPA is now detailing individual sales volumes for low sulfur MGO (LSMGO), LSFO 180 cSt, LSFO 380 cSt, and LSFO 500 cSt products, with January 2013's totals for the grades being 9,600 mt, 500 mt, 39,300 mt, and 4,500 respectively.

Volumes for key grade IFO380 were up 3.01 percent to 2,929,300 mt.

There was a 5.3 percent month-on-month rise in bunkers only calls at the port, up from 3,151 in December 2012 to 3,317 in January 2013.

Overall vessel arrivals were up some 2.5 percent from 11,275 in December 2012 to 11,564 last month.
