K-Line to Build Novel Moss Type LNG carrier
Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K-Line) says it has agreed to build a new 164,700m3 Moss (independent spherical tank) type liquid natural gas (LNG) carrier that will have increased capacity without sacrificing hull size.
The Japanese shipping line said the vessel is to be built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (KHI) and features a newly-developed hull form design which, despite the 18,000m3 increase in capacity over conventional 147,000m3 Moss type LNG carriers, has a hull size much the same as its conventional counterparts.
As such, the larger vessel will therefore still share ship shore compatibilities with major LNG terminals throughout the world.
K-Line said it will be the largest size of Moss type LNG carrier that will be able to navigate the expanded Panama Canal, which is currently under construction.
Agreement to place the vessel on long-term Time Charter with Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. has already been reached.
