Monthly bunker sales in Singapore for January 2014 were 3,557,800 metric tonnes (mt), a fall of 6.43 percent month on month and 6.07 percent year on year, according to the latest official data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

It was the first time since August 2013 that the monthly volume of bunkers sold was less than in the previous year.

Sales of the port's most common product, IFO380, slipped 5.6 percent month on month to 2.75 million mt, while the drop in volume for 500 cSt product, the port's second most popular grade, was limited to just 2.8 percent month on month to 635,700 mt.

Despite the drop in volume, vessel traffic and in particular bunker related traffic, was up.

Calls for bunkers in January rose 3.8 percent year on year, and 7.8 percent month on month to 3443, while overall vessel arrivals in January were up 2 percent year on year to 11,754.
