Singapore bunker sales have made a strong start to the year, according to the latest official data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
Sales for all products in January 2015 were 3,680,100 metric tonnes (mt), a 3.4 percent increase year-on-year and a 2.9 percent increase over the previous month.
In was the highest monthly sales volume since April 2014.
Sales of 0.10 percent sulfur MGO (LSMGO) continued to climb in January hitting an all time high of 80,800 mt, a gain of 38.7 percent over the pervious month - a development that was expected given the January 1, 2015 introduction of a 0.10 percent sulfur cap in Emissions Control Areas (ECAs).
Sales of 500 cSt product fell for a second consecutive month, dipping 0.5 percent month-on-month to 676,700 mt.
Calls for bunkers hit a 12-month high of 3,388.
According to data from Ship & Bunker, January also saw the lowest bunker prices at the port for several years.
Last month the MPA said for 2014 annual bunker sales in the world's biggest bunkering port by volume remained largely flat for a third year, and there was also no change to the top five suppliers by volume.
