Russian energy giant Gazprom plans to promote liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering as part of its efforts to expand its LNG operations, news site LNG Industry reports.

Noting the economic and environmental advantages of LNG as a bunker fuel, the company said it is committed to developing port infrastructure for the fuel.

Gazprom, which has operated in the LNG sector since 2005, said it wants to command a 15 percent market share for LNG by 2030.

The company plans to increase supplies from its Sakhalin II project with a third production train, and it is developing LNG projects in Vladivostok and the Baltic region.

The company has said the Baltic plant could produce up to 1 million tonnes per year of the fuel by 2020.
