Rightship PTY Ltd. (RightShip) Tuesday announced that, following a review by DNV GL, it has made some "minor adjustments" to the formula for its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions rating.

The updates will be rolled out over the next few weeks, says RightShip, and includes "changes to assumed fuel type for non-verified vessels, aligning ship types for comparison of GHG Emissions Rating with recent updates."

It is understood that the assumed fuel-type for non-verified vessels will now be MGO, rather than the previous HFO.

The changes also include an update to its Phase 1 Reference Line comparison.

The company says that the new formula "more accurately evaluates existing vessels as well as enabling us to apply it to additional vessel types."

"RightShip is committed to ensuring our GHG Emissions Rating reflects the latest outcomes from the IMO (International Maritime Organization) working groups, and also responds to industry feedback," the company added.

RightShip notes that while the adjustments will not have a large overall impact, some vessel ratings may receive a slight adjustment to their ratings as a result of the updates.

In July, the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate released a report that suggested that two systemic market failures have kept the industry from reducing its bunker costs through the adoption of energy efficiency measures.
