Quadrise Signs Deal with CEPSA to Supply MSAR Fuel to Maersk Line Ships
Spain's Compañía Española de Petróleos, S.A.U. (CEPSA) has signed a deal with Quadrise Fuels International plc (Quadrise) to trial supplying the alternative marine fuel supplier's emulsion MSAR fuel to Maersk Line ships, CEPSA announced this week.
The trials will reportedly begin in the first half of 2016 and run through to the end of the year to possibly early 2017, and will supply the fuel from a Quadrise manufacturing unit to be built at the Gibraltar-San Roque refinery.
According to Quadrise in a half-year update, the company will supply, install and commission the manufacturing unit.
"We are delighted to have this opportunity to meet the fuel requirements of a leading partner in the marine industry with Maersk using a pioneering technology from Quadrise," said Federico Molina, head of CEPSA´s refining unit.
"CEPSA has been a leader in marine fuel technology for many years and this agreement will help to consolidate our position."
It is expected that following a successful trial period, a full commercial roll-out will follow.
Quadrise also added that it is continuing its progress with a pilot project spanning production, transportation and combustion of the MSAR fuel in Saudi Arabia.
The company first announced its expansion in Saudi Arabia in 2012, and announced earlier this year that production of the fuel was poised to begin.
