France-based Ecoslops, which produces recycled bunkers from slops at its refinery in Sinès, Portugal, Tuesday announced that it has signed an incentive agreement with quality assurance organisation, the Green Award Foundation, which will enable Ecoslops to provide a 25 percent discount on wastes delivered via Green Award certified ships.

"The incentive we are offering provides a significant cost reduction to Green Award holders and also ensures that the disposal of their slops is efficient, sustainable and of benefit to the environment within local port communities, as well as creating a sustainable cycle for reintroducing regenerated marine fuels back into the supply chain," said Vincent Favier, CEO of Ecoslops.

Favier and Jan Fransen, Executive Director of the Green Award Foundation, are said to have met in Sinès on April 27 to mark the incentive's official start.

The incentive is said to be applicable for all hydrocarbon waste, including bilge waters, sludge, and slops, that are delivered to Ecoslops by Green Award certified vessels.

"At a time when there are limited in-port storage and reception facilities for slops, Ecoslops provides a sustainable solution, improving the environment for local port communities, and minimising downtime for ship owners," said Ecoslops.

In April, Ecoslops announced that the French government awarded the company a €200,000 ($225,360) grant in support of a MDO desulfurisation project.
