Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) says it is looking to Singapore for ideas on launching new technologies to automate and improve maritime services in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

DMCA officials visited the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore to explore practices and technology adopted there, including information technology for bunkering permits, licensing and permits and crew assessment.

"This technology benchmark visit to MPA complements DMCA's broader efforts to support Dubai's vision to achieve leadership position in various sectors, including the maritime industry," said DMCA Senior IT Manager Mahmoud Ewidah.

"It is imperative that we conduct technology benchmark visits to some of the world's leading ports authorities to explore best practices and technologies which DMCA can eventually adopt."

Last month, DMCA and MPA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreeing to look for ways to work together in areas including planning, environmental protection, training, and research.

DMCA's mission includes expanding cooperation with government and private parties in the maritime sector and generating investment opportunities, according to its website.
