Norway-based Kongsberg Maritime has been awarded a contract to install a vessel-integrated, fuel-saving control system aboard Toronto-based Nautilus Minerals Inc.'s Production Support Vessel (PSV), the company announced in a statement.

Nautilus said that the system includes dynamic positioning, marine automation, information management, and navigation systems to ensure efficient operation.

The system is also reportedly designed to minimise fuel consumption.

"We are delighted to have the global technology leader in this field, well known for its extensive portfolio of high performance products and solutions supplying the dynamic positioning, navigation and control systems for our PSV," said CEO Mike Johnston

"We look forward to reporting on the progress of the integration of this system into the vessel as we move closer to having our PSV ready for mining in Q1, 2018."

Earlier this year, Kongsberg was listed as among a range of companies who are offering fuel sensors and torque meters to track precise fuel consumption.
