The "most efficient and modern self unloading bulk carriers on a worldwide scale" have been ordered by Vulica Shipping Co. Ltd. of Houston, Texas, according to an April 16 announcement by Deltamarin Ltd.

According to Deltamarin, the B.Delta design offers "excellent performance" in terms of a range of parameters, including low fuel oil consumption, low emissions, EEDI compliance, high deadweight intake, and optimized lightweight particulars.

Deltamarin sales director Konstantinos Fakiolas made that statement in reference to the first ever B.Delta68 SUL vessels to be built by Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co.

Finland-based Deltamarin will provide the design for the Panamax-sized bulk carriers, a contract worth about USD$3.24-million. Delivery of the vessels is expected before July 2017.

The design is based on the fully tested hull of the larger B.Delta82, but with shallower draft.

The overall length is 229 metres, beam 32m and max draft 12.8m.

Guaranteed service speed will be at least 13.5 knots.

Deltamarin noted that, to date, 40 B.Delta ships and derivates have been built in six different Chinese shipyards.

Last year subsidiary Deltamarin Floating Construction Ltd was awarded a contract by Finnish shipowner Bore Ltd to supply one of its DeltaLangh turkey exhaust gas cleaning systems.
