ISO 8217:2017 - 6th Edition of the Specifications of Marine Fuels Has Been Published

Chevron Fuels Technologist Monique Vermeire, the Convenor of the ISO/TC28/SC4/WG6 Marine fuels specifications, today has informed that the 6th edition of the ISO 8217 specifications of marine fuels, ISO 8217:2017, has now been published.
The Convenor has advised that the following changes have been introduced:

Changes to Scope:

Term Fuels includes:
- Hydrocarbons from petroleum crude oil, oil sands and shale
- Hydrocarbons from synthetic or renewable sources, similar in composition to petroleum distillate fuels (eg hydrotreated VGO)
- Blends of the above with FAME component where permitted

Term Fuels includes:
- Changes to General Requirements
- Additional distillate grades: DFA,DFZ and DFB allowing up to 7 v% FAME
- DMA/DFA and DMZ/DFZ: max 1,00 % S
- DMB: max 1,50 % S
- DMA/DFA and DMZ/DFZ winter grade: cloud point and CFFP: to be reported
- De minimis level of FAME in DMA, DMZ, DMB and RM grades : increased up to approx 0,5 % FAME
- Some annexes have been deleted but key information has been incorporated in the body of the Standard
