The Trident Alliance, the new shipping industry group focused on enforcement of emission rules, has announced its full membership list of 11 companies.

In addition to previously announced members A.P. Møller-Maersk (Maersk) and Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL), the members are American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier (ARC), EUKOR Car Carriers Inc., Höegh Autoliners, J. Lauritzen, Rickmers-Linie, Stena, Torvald Klaveness, UECC, and Unifeeder.

Roger Strevens, WWL's environment vice president of has been elected chairman of the group.

"Robust enforcement of sulphur regulation is needed for health and the environment and, from the perspective of maintaining a level playing field, it is a business imperative," Strevens said.

"Already during its formation the Trident Alliance has raised awareness of the current shortcomings of enforcement and related consequences, particularly in the European ECA.

"Now our work starts in earnest."

The members plan to work together, and partner with other groups, to support robust enforcement of sulfur limits in Emissions Control Areas (ECAs).

The Trident Alliance will use a range of strategies to support strong enforcement in different countries, focusing on raising awareness of the issue as well as supporting innovative enforcement technology.

The organisation held an initial meeting in Copenhagen in May.
