Evergreen Line (Evergreen) says the delivery of new ships with better fuel efficiency is helping it to improve its position in the market.

The shipping group celebrated the delivery of the sixteenth and seventeenth vessels in a series built by Samsung Heavy Industries Tuesday, the Ever Lively and Ever Lenient.

"As a primary benefit of our ongoing fleet renewal program, we have seen a significant enhancing of the fuel efficiency of the line's operation," said second vice group chairman Bronson Hsieh.

"We believe that the delivery of Ever Lively, Ever Lenient and other newbuildings to come will continue to improve the competitiveness of our operating fleet in the global shipping market."

The ships are part of a program started in 2010 that involved orders for 30 L-type vessels and the chartering of 15 additional ships.

Ever Lively is owned by the company's Singapore subsidiary while Ever Lenient is part of its UK operation.

Evergreen received the first ship in the program in 2012.

The company has also announced plans to charter new vessels, replacing smaller and older vessels that are less fuel efficient.
