Navigator Holdings Ltd. (Navigator) Monday announced it has ordered two new fuel-efficient Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) carriers for immediate time charter.

The semi-refrigerated 22,000 cubic metre capacity ships will be built at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea with delivery dates of early 2017.

Navigator said the new ships will represent an advance on its current fleet.

"The vessels will be built with the latest maritime technologies, maximum cargo capacities and fuel efficiencies as well as technical specifications which are unavailable on much of our existing fleet, and required by our charterer," said the company.

Navigator is currently underway with a significant expansion of its fleet, which will number 38 when 13 newbuild ships, including these two, have been delivered by March 2017.

Earlier this year, Navigator exercised options for three newbuild Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carriers in anticipation of growing U.S. shale gas exports.
