Søren Skou Named New Maersk Group CEO
A.P. Møller - Mærsk A/S (Maersk Group) Thursday announced that Søren Skou will replace Nils S. Andersen the group's CEO, effective July 1, 2016.
Under the new appointment, Skou, who is noted to have worked with Maersk Group since 1983, will also retain his current position as the CEO of Maersk Line.
"Søren has strong business acumen and thorough knowledge of the Group's various businesses and has successfully restructured the businesses he has led," said Michael Pram Rasmussen, Chairman of the company's Board of Directors.
Andersen is said to be leaving Maersk Group after having served as the group's CEO since 2007.
"I am proud of the results we as a team have achieved in the Maersk Group during my leadership and after 8 years as CEO of the Group and 15 years as CEO altogether, I find it is the right time for both me and A.P. Møller - Mærsk to make a change," said Andersen.
Maersk Group further notes that the new management will investigate the strategic and structural avenues to "further increase agility and synergies," a project that the Board of Directors will provide an update on before the end of 2016's Q3.
In February, Maersk Group said it managed to reduce its 2015 annual bunker spend by $2.3 billion, which fell to $2.987 billion, compared to $5.292 billion in 2014.
