d'Amico Scoops Award After a "Considerable Reduction" in Bunker Consumption
d'Amico Società di Navigazione SpA (d'Amico) Thursday announced it has been awarded the "Green Shipowner of the Year" for 2016 at the Green Ship Technology Conference, which was held from March 15 to 18, 2016 in Copenhagen, for its efforts that included a "considerable reduction" in bunker consumption and associated emissions.
"We are really proud of this award, rewarding our commitment in reducing the marine environmental impact. Thanks to the introduction of innovative technologies on our ships and to the new eco-ships investment plan, we have been able to pass the energy efficiency international standards, building a best practice globally recognized in the world of shipping," said Paolo d'Amico, Chairman of d'Amico Group.
d'Amico says that, in addition to bunker and emissions related engineering solutions, it has created a Performance Monitoring Department, which is intended to focus on fleet performance management and continual vessel efficiency improvements - said to be the first of its kind among dry and liquid bulk shipowner companies.
"Caring for the environment cannot be limited to the purchase of new eco-vessels, it has to necessarily involve management of the whole fleet instead," said Domenico Savio Taiano, d'Amico's HSQE Director.
"A constant monitoring of vessels, thanks to highly advanced sensors on board, which allow to track consumption and performance in real time, led to a deeper responsibility assignment of the crew on environmental issues."
The company says that environmental policy and sustainable development will continue to be important pillars of its business strategy.
In October, d'Amico announced that it had launched two newbuild eco-ships, said to feature an "innovative design aimed at offering incredible versatility in type of transport, elevated performance in terms of energy efficiency and consumption, and an impressive reduction of emissions."
