Quadrise Enhances its Synthetic Fuel Oil

QIL said its scientists and engineers used results gained during recent engine tests.

The makers of the MSAR synthetic fuel oil, Quadrise Fuels International (QFI) [LON:QFI], said Tuesday it has successfully developed an enhanced version of the fuel, "Marine MSAR2".

The statement said the focus of the new fuel was "value-added performance during application."

QIL said its scientists and engineers worked along side those of Sweeden's AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry AB (AkzoNobel) to produce the new fuel using results gained during recent engine tests with A.P.Møller-Maersk.

The tests, performed earlier in 2012, were said to have produced "positive results" and have "led to re-confirmation of support by all partners to the Joint Development Agreement and their commitment to the programme to commercialisation."

The company also announced an agreement has been reached with petroleum refining firm AB Orlen Lietuva (Orlen Lietuva) to proceed with the fuel manufacturing and assessment programme with A.P. Møller-Maersk.

The programme includes the further evaluation of Marine MSAR2, the results of which are expected before the end of 2012.

"The sea trials conducted this year provided valuable and pioneering insight into the use of Marine MSAR as bunker fuel, including confirmation of the environmental benefits from potential emissions reductions," commented Ian Williams, Executive Chairman of QFI.

Shares in QFI jumped some 64% last week after it formalised its relationship with M/S Rafid Group for Trading & Contracting for the application of MSAR synthetic fuel oil in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
