New Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel Supplier Enters Louisiana
Houston-based Tauber Oil Company will begin supplying ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel to inland marine vessels in Southwest Louisiana as of this week, reports local media.
The company's barge will serve vessels on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) and the Calcasieu River Waterway, and has a capacity of 30,000 barrels.
"There's only one supplier over here," said company co-owner David Tauber.
"We figured why not come on over and give them a little competition."
The company will base its operations at the West Calcasieu Port, reports Maritime Global News,
"Now that Tauber Oil is in place and operational, we are supporting regional demand for fuel and other marine products, and we are aggressively reaching out to marine vessel companies from Texas to Florida that travel the GIWW," said Tauber.
"We are very pleased with our new marine fueling service and look forward to a long-term partnership with the West Cal Port."
The port has seen a steady rise of barges in operation, according to port director Lynn Hohensee, having grown to parking an average of 115 barges a day from 45 almost a decade ago.
Tauber already operates another fueling barge out of New Orleans, where it has been operational for the past three years.
In October last year is was reported that the Port of Greater Baton Rouge in Louisiana will see the state's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering facility.
