Dan-Bunkering Monday said it has expanded its South America operations with new offices in Chile and Uruguay.

The new Chilean office in Valparaiso, headed by General Manager Pedro Gomez, has been open since the beginning of the year, while a physical supply operation at the Montevideo office in Uruguay opened in early January.

"These two new offices will increase our strength and competitiveness in the region and we look forward to improving our market shares in the South American Region," said Managing Director of Dan-Bunkering (America) Inc. Hans Lind Dollerup.

The Chilean team was said to be made up of eight "extremely competent and experienced traders and administrative staff" including:

Market sources and information from social networking site LinkedIn indicate all eight staff are former employees of now-defunct OW Bunker.

"It has for many years been a part of our strategy to be present in three major time zones and we have been so for a number of years albeit very limited in the Americas," said Group CEO Henrik Zederkof.

"When the opportunity arose to carry out such extensive expansions in that particular region, we took it."
