U.S. marine solutions company Crowley Maritime Corporation (Crowley) says it has acquired Ketchikan, Alaska fuel company Anderes Oil.

"This is our first venture in the southeast Alaska market and we are very excited to be expanding into this region," said Rocky Smith, senior vice president and general manager.

"I am confident that we will be successful in integrating this business into the Crowley family while continuing the tradition of great service to the community of Ketchikan."

Anderes Oil supplies a variety of marine fuels in southeast Alaska, according to its website.

Crowley said the buyout, done by its petroleum distribution group, CPD Alaska LLC, will not change Anderes' operations, and the company will retain its name and its 20 employees.

"Anderes and Crowley have similar cultures and values emphasizing safety, environmental protection and customer service," said Bob Cox, Crowley vice president.

"Our goal is a seamless transition and supporting the fine employees of Anderes Oil going forward."

Crowley, which is based in Florida, operates 22 fuel terminals in western Alaska and the rail belt, and the new acquisition will allow it to expand into southeastern Alaska.

This spring, Crowley acquired Carib Energy LLC, marking its entry into the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market.
