NOAA Vessels Get Fuel Monitoring System
Krill Systems Inc. (Krill) has installed vessel fuel measurement and monitoring systems (VFMMS) to help ship operators conserve fuel on six survey vessels for the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries, the company has announced in an emailed press release.
Krill said its system records sensor data with 2-second resolution and can then transmit customisable data reports over the internet.
"We were very pleased, initially, to have won the NOAA contract, in a highly competitive bid environment, and are now pleased to have brought the project to a successful, on-time, conclusion" said Brian Staton, Krill's vice president of sales and marketing.
"Krill's fuel management technology continues to gain recognition in both government and commercial marine markets, nationally and internationally.
"The successful completion of the NOAA VFMMS contract demonstrates Krill's growing dominance in these markets."
The vessels fitted with the system were said to help NOAA Fisheries in its mission to manage, conserve, and protect marine resources in the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone, as well provide assistance with NOAA's nautical charting mission.
With rising bunker prices and a new International Maritime Organisation (IMO) mandate for the use of Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plans (SEEMPs), more ship owners have been adopting fuel monitoring technology.
