May Bunker sales in Panama were the highest of the year so far, according to the latest data from the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP).

Sales across the region's two costs totalled 2,234,162.32 barrels - about 310,000 metric tonnes (mt).

Of that, 72 percent - 1,607,630.08 barrels or about 223,300 mt - was sold on the Pacific coast, and 28 percent - 626,532.24 barrels, or about 87,000 mt - was sold on the Atlantic coast.

It was the highest sales volume since the 2,278,543.87 barrels (about 316,500 mt) sold in December 2014, and represented a 42.5 percent rise year-on-year from the 1,568,031.12 barrels (about 217,800 mt) reported for May 2014.

Last year the Chairman of the Panama Chamber of Shipping's Bunkering Committee said Panama can regain lost ground to once again become the world's third largest bunker market.
