Singapore Smashes Annual Bunker Sales Record, Sells Over 45 Million MT in 2015
After three years of flat annual bunker sales of around 42 million metric tonnes (mt), the latest preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) shows the world's biggest bunkering port has smashed its annual bunker sales record, with total sales of over 45 million mt for 2015.
The previsional total of 45,155,700 mt marks the first time the port has sold over $45 million mt during a year, and is 6.5 percent higher than the 2014 total.
It is also 4.6 percent higher than the previous record total of 43,153,800 mt set in 2011.
As for December's performance, Singapore posted 4,051,200 mt of bunker sales for all products for the month, its second highest ever monthly sales total.
As always, sales of 380 cSt material made up the majority of sales, with 3,100,100 mt sold.
The port's second most popular grade, 500 cSt, saw 759,800 mt of sales, a decrease of 7.4 percent month-on-month but 12 percent higher than in December 2014.
Calls for bunkers in December were up 14 percent year-on-year to 3,610.
Last month Ship & Bunker reported that Singapore was almost certain to make 2015 its best year for volumes ever, needing just 2,049,300 mt of sales in December to break the all time record, having sold more than 2.2 million mt in every month since at least January 2007.
