Indonesian state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina's plans to develop and upgrade two fuel terminals in Riau worth a combined $156 million are still on track and scheduled to be finished by June of 2016, local media reports.

When completed, the terminals will have a total capacity of 500,000 kiloliters of fuel.

Work on the Sambu and Tanjung Uban terminals began in February 2012, and Pertamina's president director Dwi Soetjipto stated that completion of the former in March of next year will allow the company to assume the role of a storage and blending facility provider.

Soetjipto said,"The facilities are not only to support energy resilience but also to support Pertamina's oil trading business in Southeast Asia in the future, especially for international standard MFO and HSD fuels."

The $94 million Sambu project in Batam, which includes a blending facility for high-speed diesel and marine fuel oil, will upgrade the facility's storage capacity to 300,000 kiloliters and dock capacity to LR 100,000 deadweight tonnage.

Soetjiptom said the projects are still on the track and "We hope WIKA [state-controlled construction company] as the executor of the EPC [engineering procurement and construction] will be able to finish the project according to schedule, or sooner if possible."

The projects are part of a plan by Pertamina to capture demand from the Malacca Strait, which now mainly flows to Singapore.
