Swire Pacific Offshore (SPO) of Singapore says it has launched the last in a series of eight fuel-efficient "D-Class" fuel-efficient anchor handling tug supply vessels.

"The D-Class vessels represent a significant investment for SPO, forming a central part of our fleet expansion, re-balance and renewal strategy to meet the growing demand for large, modern, high specification, deep water offshore support vessels," said Managing Director Neil Glenn.

"We are very pleased with their range of operational capabilities and safety and technical performance in serving the needs of our customers around the world."

The vessels, designed to support the latest semi-submersible rigs in harsh deepwater situations, are built to clean-class special purpose ship (SPS) 2008 and ice notations, with a focus on environmental friendliness.

The new vessel, Pacific Dragon, is one of six ships in the series built by Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd (ST Marine).

SPO announced the launch of a previous vessel in the series, Pacific Dispatch, in December and said it plans to have 100 vessels in its fleet by the end of 2015.
