Singapore ship owner Swire Pacific Offshore Operations Pte Ltd. (SPO) says it has added a fuel-saving anchor-handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel to its fleet.

The tug, Pacific Dispatch, is the fifth in a series of six vessels built for fuel efficiency, with Ice-Class and SPS 2008 notations and the technical ability to support modern semi-submersible rigs.

The vessel was built by Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd (ST Marine).

The main engine is certified to IMO Tier II standards, and the vessel uses positioning technology, thrusters, and large-capacity winches for strong flexibility in its operations.

"The launch of Pacific Dispatch is another important step for the Company as we continue to develop our fleet of high specification anchor handling tug supply vessels," said Managing Director Neil Glenn.

"The D Class series has enjoyed a successful entry into service and each new vessel allows us to extend its presence across our key markets, supporting our customers with safe, high quality performance and service."

SPO plans to have 100 vessels by the end of 2015, including eight D Class vessels.

Three more D Class vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2014.

As part of its efforts to reduce its environmental impact, SPO recently signed the Maritime Singapore Green Pledge.
