Gulf Petrochem has announced in an emailed statement the commissioning for use of the first phase of its new storage terminal at Pipavav Port, Gujarat, India.

The Pipavav facility will handle fuel oil as well as other oil products, chemicals, lubricants, and other bulk liquids.

"The location of our terminal offers a strategic and logistical advantage to our customers in the North Western markets," said Manan Goel, Director for Gulf Petrochem.

The new terminal will have a total capacity of 250 million litres across 46 tanks of varying sizes, with this first phase representing 110 million litres of that capacity.

The remaining 140 million litres will be commissioned in mid-March, said Gulf Petrochem.

The new facility features an exclusive oil berth with a 12 metre draft for handling mid-range oil tankers carrying up to 40,000 tons of cargo.

In addition, the company said the facility will have heat traced lines to keep products such as fuel oil and bitumen at desired temperatures.

In January, Gulf Petrochem announced it was expanding UAE bunkering operations, using bunker barges to leverage its existing storage facility at Fujairah.
