Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) is supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkers to Asia's first LNG-powered passenger ship, Econuri, at Incheon Port, Energy Korea reports.

The state gas company signed a contract on April 17, 2013 with the Incheon Port Authority to provide the bunkering service, and the two parties also agreed to work toward the addition of more LNG-fuelled ships.

KOGAS began a trial run on March 7, supplying the LNG bunkers from Songdo Port in Pohang.

At Incheon, the company will fuel Econuri with LNG from its Pyeongtaek Terminal on a truck-to-ship basis.

The Econuri, which was built by Samsung Heavy Industries and Dongseong Shipbuilding for Incheon Port Authority, is a 200-tonne vessel that can sail for about 895 kilometers on 10 tonnes of LNG.

Det Norske Veritas (DNV) said in January that it was working with KOGAS to study LNG bunkering at the South Korean ports of Busan, Incheon, and Pyeongtaek.
