MPA Reports Collision, Bunker Spill in Singapore
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on Wednesday evening reported a collision between two vessels about 2.7 km south of Jurong Island has resulted in a bunker spill.
MPA said it received a report of the collision on January 29, 2014 at about 18:30 hrs local time, saying the departing Hong Kong-flagged chemical tanker Lime Galaxy had collided with the arriving China-flagged containership Fei He.
No injuries were reported as a result of the collision, however Fei He sustained damage to one of her bunker tanks resulting in the spillage of an unspecified volume of bunker fuel.
"Upon notification, MPA immediately dispatched three patrol craft to deal with the spill. Oil spill response companies were also activated to support the clean up efforts," the MPA said.
The two vessels involved in the collision are understood to be currently safely anchored and in stable condition.
MPA has issued navigational broadcasts to ships to navigate with caution when in the vicinity of the incident site, but traffic in the port and the Strait of Singapore was said to be unaffected.
MPA is investigating the cause of the collision.
