China's Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Company Limited (Wuchang) says it has reached an agreement with Anhui Huaqiang Natural Gas (Anhui) to build three liquified natural gas (LNG) bunker barges for the Chinese market.

The deal was said to be worth an initial CNY100 million ($16 million).

Wuchang says it expects Anhui to order 10 additional barges as early as October, with the possibility of further orders to follow as demand rises for LNG bunkers.

The dual-fuel, 4,000 dwt double hull barges will feature two 250 m3 LNG storage tanks.

GTT North America (GTT NA) recently received an approval in principal from DNV GL for its LNG bunker barge design.
