Singapore's April bunker sales bounced back from March's 13 month low, surging 20 percent month-on-month to their highest level in almost two years, according to the latest data from Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales for all products was 3,812,900 metric tonnes (mt), making it the fourth highest monthly sales volume of all time, and 172,800 mt short of the all-time high of 3,985,700 mt set in May 2012.

As expected, sales of IFO380 bunkers for the period made up the lion's share of the volume with 2,814,200 mt sold.

Sales of 500 cSt product made a notable jump of some 30 percent to an all time high of 747,900 mt, surpassing the previous record set in July 2013 of 714,600 mt.

Counter to the rise in sales, calls for bunkers dipped 3.8 percent over the previous month to 3,151, while vessel calls overall were also down 3.8 percent month-on-month to 11,432.

Despite the sales surge, at 13,833,000 mt, year-to-date volumes lag just behind the 13,874,600 mt sold during the same period last year.
