Chemoil has started physical bunkering operations in Port Klang, Malaysia, the Singapore-listed supplier has told Ship & Bunker.

"Several of our key customers have been asking us for a long time to consider supplying bunkers in Port Klang, and we are pleased to respond to their interest with this new service offering," said Chemoil CEO Thomas Reilly.

"Port Klang will be an excellent complement to our supply operations in Singapore."

Chemoil has four bunker tankers in operation at the port through a joint venture with an unnamed Singaporean company - one 4,800 dwt, two 3,000 dwt, and one 2,500 dwt tanker - and is loading bunker cargoes from Singapore.

The supplier says it is already delivering 40,000 metric tonnes (mt) per month of product at the port, and is aiming to double that amount to 80,000 mt within the next 6 months.

"Initial feedback we have learned from our customers was positive as Port Klang has less shipping traffic, congestion compared with bunkering operations in Singapore," said Reilly.

For customers who want it, Chemoil said it was offering flexible Singapore-linked pricing.

The Journal of Commerce ranks Port Klang as the world's 13th busiest container port.
